WOOOOO HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
I've been feeling kinda crummy about my drawing lately, (not feeling like I've progressed much, etc.) But this really helped!!
2007- 7th grade, I was inspired by my new friend, , to start drawing, and WHEW I SUCKED. I was influenced by anime, obviously, and I was VERY proud of my drawings at the time, fueled by encouraging parents and peers that oo'ed and awe'd without critique or judgement. I joined Gaia Online. I pretty much never colored, and a lot of my work was on notebook paper....
2008- 8th grade, and I got my first tablet!! And I was quickly discouraged, because I was terrible. I began doing avi art on gaia, which encouraged me a lot, however also is a big reason why I was so stuck on anime. Everyone wanted anime, so that's what I tried to give them. I had no understanding of anatomy, but I mostly tried to imitate what i saw. I started experimenting with color.
2009- Freshman Year, I got my first set of Prismacolor Colored Pencils! So I used them pretty often, but I wasn't very good. I was still stuck on anime, however I was very experimental this year. I became obsessed with faeries and elves and magic beings of the like. Anatomy slowly improving...
2010- Sophomore Year, I got my first Copic Markers! So between those and my Prismas, I colored EVERYTHING. even sketches. ALSO, this year brought my FIRST ORIGINAL CHARACTERS!!! I didn't develop them hardly at all, but they began pouring out of me. I started developing a style, but since I was trying so hard, it wasn't very natural to me. It changed monthly. I was beginning to mess with and purposefully alter anatomy so as to create characters with individuality. I didn't hardly do any tablet work.
2011- Junior Year, I decided to pick up on my tablet again. Unfortunately, all I drew with it were chibis for gaia. But on paper, my style was improving, and I began metaphorically barfing out original characters. I tried drawing comics, quickly gave up on them, and continued designing characters. I learned how to shade. This became a quick obsession for me. I shaded profusely.
2012- SENIOR YEAR BBY!!! Legend Of Korra. My most involved set of OCs were the ones and I came up with this year. I love them. I drew on my tablet more than ever this year, and I learned a ton of new techniques. Namely, using textures. This year, I made a conscious effort to escape from my anime influence, (albeit inevitable) and my style became more.... I don't really know what to call it. My style still fluctuates, however I think I've gotten to a point where I don't hate everything I draw, so that's good. haha.
HOPEFULLY THIS YEAR I WILL IMPROVE EVEN MORE. I have a lot to look foreward to, and hopefully, a lot to learn. College, HERE I COME!!!
